You may find a Win 8 driver for some of the Adaptec SCSI cards, but the 19160 does not appear to be one of them. Not sure what will happen under Win 8 though. I think the Vuescan software is much better than the original Minolta program and the whole set-up works like a charm. I bought a second-hand one from eBay for about £12 ($20), downloaded the drivers from the Adaptec support site, and it works fine. I looked on the Adaptec website for a basic PCI SCSI card that was supported with drivers for Win 7 64-bit, and found the Adaptec 19160 looked suitable. In order to get the scanner interface to work you need to find a SCSI card that is supported by Windows 7 (64-bit in my case). The Minolta scanner software will not run under Win 7, but since you are already using Vuescan, this will not be a problem. I have a Minolta scanner with a SCSI interface that I wanted to use on a Win 7 64-bit system. What is your solution? What kind of interface does your Nikon scanner have? So, I still have an old WinXP laptop that is on its last legs that I can use the scanner with. The problem I have is that although Vuescan could work with the scanner on Win7 and Win8 the scanner uses a SCSI interface and none of my newer computers can handle that. I have been using Vuescan since the 0.7 beta in 1998. I like the scanner and still use it sometimes to scan film. I have a Minolta Scan Elite film scanner that I bought in 2000. Yeah it took me a while to dig up a solution a few years back. I hope that this will be helpful to others here. I just recently found THE solution! The author of the FastPictureView program has written a driver that allows the use of a Coolscan V ED and several other models on a Windows 7 64-bit machine and I can report that it works perfectly, so I assume his claim that it works on Windows 8 is correct, too.Īnd follow the excellent directions exactly, then reboot. This will test whether the problem is with the way the shortcut was set up or whether the problem is with VueScan. If you’ve set up a shortcut to vuescan.exe and are having problems, try double-clicking \Program Files\VueScan\vuescan.exe directly. However, it was better than abandoning the scanner. VueScan works on Windows XP/Vista/7/8/10 (but not Windows 2000). The Nikon driver and software work in this virtual machine, but it is somewhat tricky to set up. What to do?įor several years I have run a virtual machine of Windows XP under VirtualBox in Windows 7 64-bit. They recommended a 3rd party program, but it is much inferior to the Nikon program, if you can get it to work. Though these are professional quality, with prices to match, Nikon infuriatingly failed to write Windows 7 drivers, and explicitly said they were not going to. Some of the best slide scanners ever made were in the Nikon Coolscan series.
